Assistant Professor of History at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.  An expert on Cuba and Atlantic history, she was awarded the Program for Cultural Cooperation between Spain's Ministry of Culture and United States research grant, the Lydia Cabrera Award for Cuban Historical Sudies by the Conference on Latin American History, and a Ford Foundation Grant for Student Travel for her work on Cuban tobacco farmers.  She has presented papers at the Caribbean Economic History Association, Latin American Studies Association, and the Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Southern Historical Association (SHA).
