Teaching Latin American history to American students is interesting and challenging at the same time. Teaching Latin American history to Hispanic and Latino students in America is an entirely different experience. In this paper I will discuss the opportunities and challenges of teaching Latin American history to students with ties to Latin American communities. Through a combination of documents, literature, and film, these students can achieve a rich and varied understanding of the culture, history, and heritage of Latin American communities in the present and the past.
