My paper will explore Gwen's role as a scholar-activist by probing into her role as the Chairperson of the Defense Committee for Robert Franklin Williams and her close and enduring relationship with the Williams family.  I could also contextualize this within her commitment to the African American struggle during the "classic" civil rights movement.
