Session Abstract

This session explores the recent process of social studies standards review in Texas.  Presenters will reflect on the implications of these curricular changes for historians, teachers, and the society at large.  They will also discuss what the controversy surrounding the new standards has revealed about the status of history in public discourse, and what historians and others have been doing to mitigate problems in the standards and in the revision process itself.
