Session Abstract

The focus of the roundtable is to discuss latest research on communities and networks in the Indian Ocean, Africa and the Americas. While the focus will be on the diaspora of Africans and the networks and communities arising from the history of slavery, the panelists will also discuss the limitations of an Afican-centered approach to the study of Africans in diaspora and in Africa. The meaning of ethnicity and identity will be discussed in comparative perspective.
