Designing a successful online class requires a solid plan and the understanding that the online environment is very adaptable to what we already do in the face-to-face classroom. Combining the two teaching and learning environments in an effective manner is key to a successful instructional design and a successful experience for learners.
In this presentation I will outline some key components for online and blended course that encourage student success and student engagement in any discipline, but particularly in the Social Sciences, with an emphasis on History. In the online environment we can use similar techniques as in face-to-face classes, including a variety of media, collaborative work, and other engaging strategies within a solid framework that helps students easily navigate any course on any platform. I will share examples for good online and blended practices in design and engagement.
