American Protestant women missionaries of all denominations left rich archival evidence about their activities around the world. An example from my research and work with WASMI illustrates the significance of writings by the women of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in the Near East from 1830 to 1930. The example highlights the sources currently available and the avenues WASMI can explore to gain access to lesser known materials. I emphasize the need to make transnational women’s history truly transnational through exploration of non-American sources and greater attention to the people among whom American women missionaries worked.
