The presentation will focus on how the sea, that is the Indian Ocean, was viewed and experienced by some Indo-Persian travellers of the early modern period. Whether because they were committed landlubbers, or because a long tradition weighed on them, their narratives presented even relatively short voyages as fraught with perils, especially of shipboard fires.
