The paper will be a preliminary study of the ways in which medieval Arabic literary
lives of the companions of Muhammad (Sahaba) are a type of
hagiography, which reflect Greek Byzantine tropes as well as early
Islamic virtues. It will also cover aspects of the biographical genre in medieval Islam, and its place in Arabic historiography.
