Julian Carter, “Boundary Issues in Queer Academic Contexts”
Carter's comments will address the queer charge that can attach to the academic patterns of cross-generational intimacy we call mentoring, describing some of the ways in which work on sexuality, gender, politics, and love fosters a level of engagement that can challenge conventional academic boundaries. He will discuss the way in which the irrelevance of generational models to queer cultural transmission intersects with queer students' need for or rejection of adult recognition and approval to influence the relations of teachers and students in queer-themed classrooms.
