Session Abstract

Panel members will be talking about recent work on the 'unfamous'---both that of panel members and others.  While the subjects are wide-ranging (including enslaved and freed African Americans and their descendents, previously unsung Revolutionary activists, as well as other little known whites and blacks---among them William Otter, Susannah Paine, Bill Traylor and Magdalene Dulin), emphasis will be placed on new types of evidence used and the significance of the growing concern with ‘ordinary’ people.
